Digital Preservation 2049: The Past, Present and Futures of Cyber-Archives

This webinar begins in 1999. It reflects on the last 25 of digital preservation: what have we learned along the way, and what this tells us about the next 25 year up to 2049. It will start by discussing and reflecting on the nature of the digital preservation challenges facing archives and will sketch the tools and approaches that have been tried to address this challenge. These themes will be explored through practical experience of the Digital Preservation Coalition’s global membership, which reveals the less obvious but more current threats which also need to be addressed if we are to hand on a secure digital legacy to future generations. It will end with a discussion of emerging opportunities and challenges in the digital domain, such as cybersecurity and artificial intelligence which will shape the future of cyber archives.
