ICA Adelaide 2019 “Designing the Archive”: Call for Submissions
The conference program aims to explore the use of empathy, creativity, innovation, experimentation, prototyping, and co-design in the development of recordkeeping systems, information governance frameworks, archival programs and services, archive buildings and spaces, or digital archives.
The deadline for submissions is 28 February (23:59:59 Adelaide Time ACDT).

Message from Charles Farrugia, incoming Chairperson of the ICA European Branch
As from the beginning of this year I am honored to shoulder the responsibility as Chairperson of the European Branch of the International Council on Archives (EURBICA). With over 900 members, EURBICA is one of the largest entities within the International Council on Archives (ICA). Apart from this, EURBICA is the main pan-European professional body which covers archival activity in and outside the European Union. The organisation was re-launched in 2016, following an extensive survey of its members. Under the Chairmanship of Dr Deborah Jenkins during the last two years the organisation witnessed a period of reinvigoration.

The National Archives of Curaçao have kindly translated the Universal Declaration on Archives, adopted by the 36th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO on 10th November 2011, in Papiamentu.
The Declaration itself is an important step in improving understanding and awareness of archives among the general public and key decision-makers. It is a powerful, succinct statement of the relevance of archives in modern society. Help us promote the Declaration:

Signature of a partnership agreement between AIAF and ICA
Hélène Laverdure, Treasurer of the Association Internationale des Archivistes Francophones (AIAF) and Henri Zuber Vice-President of the International Council on Archives (ICA) signed a cooperation agreement during the Yaounde Annual Conference in Cameroon, at the end of November.
The aim of this partnership is to translate parts of the content of the PIAF and publish it in the Online Training Platform ICA is launching this year

CCAAA Joint Technical Symposium Call for Papers
The Joint Technical Symposium (JTS) is an international scientific and technical event dealing with matters of particular importance to audiovisual archives and archivists. Organized since 1983 by the member organizations now forming the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archiving Associations (CCAAA), with ICA among them, it provides an opportunity for colleagues around the world and those interested in the field to meet and share information about the preservation of original image and sound materials.
This year the upcoming 2019 JTS will be held jointly with IASA’s 50th Anniversary conference from 3 to 5 October.

Archives funding loss disappoints

Dunedin archives advocate Stuart Strachan is "annoyed and disappointed" by a report showing National Archives has lost funding and influence since rejoining the Internal Affairs Department.
Former Waikato University professor of accounting and finance Don Gilling said in his recent report that an earlier Cabinet paper had claimed the restructuring would "futureproof" the two organisations and cut costs.

Geof Huth et Karen Trivette sont le mari et la femme derrière le podcast An Archivist’s Tale (Récit d’un archiviste) qui met en scène des « archivistes en conversation avec des archivistes, parlant de leur travail, de leurs passions et de la manière dont ils prennent soin des documents historiques et présentent le passé écrit. » Geof et Karen ont eu une année remarquablement productive depuis qu’ils ont diffusé leur premier épisode le 10 février 2018, avec maintenant 47 épisodes publiés à l’heure actuelle et plus encore en cours. Dans ce post, Chris Burns, membres de COPA, change le script et s’entretient avec les interviewers, pour demander à Geof et Karen pourquoi et comment ils ont créé ce podcast et ce qu’ils ont appris au long de la route.

Madame Kirps, Directrice des Archives nationales du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg, Madame Zeien, responsable de la Section ancienne et corédactrice de la loi, et Madame Simic, responsable des Relations publiques et du Service éducatif, ont très aimablement accepté de nous recevoir et de répondre à nos questions sur ce texte de loi (La nouvelle loi d’archives du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg 1/2). Cet entretien nous a également permis de découvrir les Archives nationales du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg ainsi que quelques projets novateurs qui y ont été, ou y sont, menés.

Mme Kirps, Director of the National Archives of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ; Mme Zeien, head of the Section Ancienne and co-author of the law ; and Mme Simic, head of Public Relations and the Education Service have kindly agreed to meet with us and answer questions on the text of the law (the new Archive Law for the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg 1/2). This interview will also enable us to find out about the National Archives of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg as well as the innovative projects which have been, or are being, carried out there.
